The Gargoyle Captain is a magic using captain who leads the Gargoyles, a small team of elite magi who hold operations too vital and too covert for an army.
The idea for the character was a mage who carves runes on his own armor to create spells on the fly, with the armor healing itself after the fact with the residual magic. He's in his late thirties, and in the military for years as a prodigy. His story is a long one, but I wanted it to read in his design that he is tough, but not ruthless. I wanted the style and design philosophy to represent Overwatch, if Overwatch was less stylized
ZBrush was used for the Sculpt, Blender was used for the retopology, UVs, Rigging, and some rendering. The model was also imported and rendered in Marmoset Toolbag 5. The character is made with 4K textures for the most part, and uses one UDIM for the body, to ensure great texture quality. The model is fully optimized for Unreal Engine 5 using ORM textures.
I hope that with time, I can create a more complex rig for the character and implement some animations to tell his story through.
This project was incredibly fun, and my favorite so far. I wanted to challenge myself with a longer, more complex project, incorporating professional feedback given to me so graciously by the incredibly talented Wei Wong, and Benjamin Lee.
